Uther Pendragon Stolen By Geoffrey of Monmouth?

I will soon be analyzing how I "feel" about Uther Pendragon/Illtud as Arthur's father.  What I'm wrestling with right now are two things: 1) there is no doubt in my mind that Uther = Illtud and 2) the Life of Illtud and all the traditions we have concerning Illtud point decidedly away from his being Arthur's father.  The evidence, such as it is, favors the creative use of the Pendragon epithet by Geoffrey of Monmouth or his source.

Right now I'm not liking the Southern Arthur at all, as everything about him smacks of a relocated Northern figure.  I'm also quite positive - instinctively - that Arthur has something to do with the York of the Roman period Lucius Artorius Castus.

More on all this in a bit...
